The Cycle of Manure

cycle-of-manure_top

In pork production, there is a natural cycle: pigs consume feed which produces manure, their manure is used to fertilize the fields, the fields produce grain which is turned into feed, and so on.  There are many advantages to utilizing this natural source of fertilizer on our land.

  1. The application of manure allows us to vastly decrease the amount of commercial fertilizer that we use as it supplies nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium to the soil.
  2. Manure is also a terrific source of secondary nutrients such as sulfur, calcium, and magnesium.
  3. The use of manure leads to higher crop yields.
  4. Manure is an organic substance.

We are pleased to be able to recycle this natural waste product in such a productive way.
